Golden Man exhibition opens at Manchester Art Gallery

The famed Golden Man goes on display at Manchester Art Gallery on Thursday 7th November as one of the star exhibits in a major new exhibition – Out of the Crate.

Part exhibition, part research space, Out of the Crate delves into the un-tapped history of the gallery's collection – a rare opportunity to investigate sculpture through access to stored collections and archival material. The show features nearly 500 sculptures from antiquity to the present day and, until now, less than 3% were on display. As well as modern and contemporary works, there are 19th century sculptures and works from earlier periods that have rarely been seen this century and are under-researched.

The Golden Man will stand alongside pieces by Stephan Balkenhol, Mark Titchner, Henry Moore, Pascale Martine Tayou and Susie MacMurray in a room which has been co-curated by the gallery's Making Conversation Group, who meet monthly to talk about art at the gallery. Out of the Crate will be on display for two years so there's no excuse for not going to see the Golden Man in his new home!
