Gift to Oriel Mon, Anglesey Art Gallery

Rock and Sea (first Drawing) 1983, pencil, brush, ink, watercolour on paper, 475 x 505cm,

Many of the paintings and drawings Leonard produced in Anglesey were given by the estate of Leonard McComb to the Oriel Mon, Anglesey Museum and Art Gallery in 2020.

Leonard McComb visited Anglesey on a regular basis after his mother bought a bungalow on the island in the small town of Benllech, right near the sea. He would start painting the caught fish purchased from the harbours at Amlwch and Moelfre.

He painted the surrounding landscape and then produced studies and large drawings of rocks and the sea.

This work will contribute to a retrospective of Leonard’s work at the Oriel Mon scheduled for 2025.
